The Indian government announced on Monday evening it was banning 59 apps developed by Chinese firms including TikTok, Share it, UC browser, Like, Wechat, bigo live, beauty plus And many more. These apps were engaged in activities which is prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India and security of state public order.
One of the major concern of the Tamil Nadu government behind the TikTok ban in India was the dark side of the app in the form of cyberbullying, harassment and children being exposed to sexually explicit content. There’s nothing bad about the TikTok app in itself. However the problem lies with the underage audience and the nature of content.
At the same time there have been raging concern on aspects relating to data security and safeguarding the privacy of 130 crore Indians.
The ministry of information technology has received many complaints from various sources including several reports about misuse of some mobile apps available on Android and iOS platforms for stealing and transmitting users data in an unauthorized manner to servers which have locations outside India.
The move come in the backdrop of a current stand off along the line of Actual Central in Ladakh with the Chinese troops. This marks the largest sweep against the Chinese Technology Companies.
RSS affiliate Swadeshi Jagran wrote a letter to the Prime Minister on July 13 for a ban on TikTok and Helo. The organization said that the apps were exposing Young people of the country and influencing them for vested interest at an early age. It also noted that Byte dance paid influencer run campaign promoting products issues and ideologies.
This is not the first time though that TikTok has been under the legal scanner. In the US a complaint was filled to the FTC accusing TikTok of illegally collecting personal information from children, thus violating the federal Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act.
There has been a several of accidents and Mishappenings that have been reported related to the use of TikTok. The death of 19 year old was the most recent incident in Delhi. Another accident was reported in Punjab in which the man filming a TikTok was trying to mount a moving tractor but instead of this he crushed into the cultivator.

Zhang Yiming is the TikTok founder who previously founded byte dance in 2012. TikTok is owned and operated by Chinese Company, byte dance which is one of the world most valuable start ups.
TikTok itself a destination for short form mobile videos. It has a massive user base with about 80million downloads in the US alone and it is especially popular with Young people. TikTok is owned by byte dance which has been around since 2012 and has a $75billion Valuation.
Tech giant Google and Apple have been ordered by an Indian court to remove the Chinese social media app. TikTok from their app store and block downloads over various concerns.
This move is going to badly hurt TikTok parent company, China’s byte dance Ltd.
According to data India has millions of users globally. Right before the ban India became a apps largest market. TikTok has more than 1.5 billion all time downloads and it is owned by a Chinese Internet company called byte dance.
